Olympic Games 2024 – Eight RUB students for Paris

Eight students of Ruhr-Universität Bochum took part in the Olympic or are still taking part in the Paralympic Games in Paris, the French capital.

Six RUB students participated in the rowing competiton, one is running and one does judo. Of course, all were dreaming of winning a medal, and some succeeded: Rower Pia Greiten, who is studying Civil Engineering, won bronze in the quadruple sculls on 31 July. Rector Prof Dr Martin Paul was one of the first to congratulate her: “Congratulations to Ms Greiten on her bronze medal in the rowing quadruple sculls at the 2024 Olympic Games! As Ruhr-Universität, we are proud to be able to count such outstanding athletes among our community.”

Julius Christ, who is currently doing his Master’s in Political Consultancy, and Sönke Kruse, studying Environmental Engineering and Resource Management, participated in the coxless double scull. Three more RUB students are members of the German men’s eight: Jasper Angl (Applied Computer Science), Max John (Sports Science), and Wolf-Niclas Schröder (Civil Engineering).

Last not least, there is Marius Probst. The track and field athlete has been studying sports science in Bochum since 2023 and will compete in the 1,500 metres in Paris.

The Paralympic Games will begin on 28 August 2024. Here, Isabell Thal wants to beat as many opponents as possible and win a medal in the judo competition. She is studying Sport & Exercise Science for Health and Performance at Ruhr University.
