The European Commission has designated the Utrecht region as Europe’s most competitive regio,according to last month’s Regional Competitiveness Index. Utrecht University is proud to be one of the drivers of the regional knowledge ecosystem. Researchers compared 234 European regions on almost 70 indicators. Utrecht scored highest on education level and innovation. Utrecht continues to score high on the share of highly educated labour force, innovation and market size. The study further reveals that the labour market opportunities of young people in Utrecht are very high compared to other regions and that there is a very high labour market participation of women which is linked to their high level of education in Utrecht.
