ENSAG/UGA-UT-NCKU Joint Workshop 2024” Held in Grenoble, France
From September 23 to 27, 2024, the ENSAG/UGA-UT-NCKU Joint Workshop 2024 was successfully held in Grenoble, France. This collaborative event brought together 30 students from the École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Grenoble/Université Grenoble Alpes (ENSAG/UGA), 10 students from National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), and 26 students from University of Tsukuba (UT). Under the guidance of Professor Philippe Liveneau and Maîtresse de conférence Amal Abudaya from ENSAG/UGA, along with Associate Professor Kyota Yamada from UT, the students were divided into seven groups to work on creative projects.
The workshop was structured in two phases. The first phase, held online from September 16 to 20, allowed the students to begin collaborating remotely. The second phase, from September 23 to 27, took place on-site in Grenoble, where the students completed and installed their projects at La Maison Bergès, a museum dedicated to the history of hydroelectricity and the industrial legacy of Aristide Bergès, an engineer and inventor, located in Villard-Bonnot, Isère, France.
On September 23, the participants met in person for the first time at ENSAG/UGA. Despite working within specific constraints on materials, size, and production time, as well as navigating language barriers (since English was not the first language for many participants), the students produced remarkable works that fit both the concept and the landscape of the museum.
The final day of the workshop, September 27, saw the creations being transported to and installed at La Maison Bergès – Musée de la Houille Blanche in Villard-Bonnot, near Grenoble, by the students. Although rain interrupted the installation, the students successfully completed the task. Thanks to the museum’s generosity, the installations will remain on display for approximately two months. If you have the chance to visit Grenoble during this period, you are encouraged to stop by the museum, interact with the pieces by sitting or lying on them, and enjoy the students’ creations firsthand.
The workshop will be held again next year at a different venue, continuing this fruitful international collaboration.
Our sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of the workshop, especially to La Maison Bergès for hosting the students’ works.
