RUB start-up mechIC presents energy-autonomous sensor in Boston
At the “University of Tsukuba Night 2024” at the Cambridge Innovation Center, the newly developed mechIC sensor was presented for the first time to an international audience of more than 150 guests. The team is developing strain sensors that work without electricity and will be installed in concrete structures such as bridges and tunnels in the future.
The participants were particularly interested in the miniaturized mechanics and the possibility of energy-autonomous measurement. There were also specific inquiries from various other areas of application such as oil rigs, pipelines and space travel.
Founder Steffen Wittemeier was very enthusiastic about the event: “I was able to make exciting contacts, not only in the USA. We will definitely stay in touch with a start-up founder from Japan, as we can benefit from each other”. The start-up ecosystem in Boston is much larger than in Bochum. On the other hand, according to Steffen Wittemeier, the support provided by RUBs start-up support program WORLDFACTORY is much more individual. In Bochum, “I have the impression we are seen better. We can be very satisfied in Bochum,” says the founder.
The networking event was organized by the University of Tsukuba. The participation of the Bochum start-up was supported by the internationalization program WORLDFACTORY International.
